2026 NCHC Play of the Year Tournament: First Round - Day 3

Match-ups for April 17 feature goals from Denver's McMorrow, ASU's Schimek and saves from Denver's Miller, CC's Mbereko

On day three of the 2026 NCHC Play of the Year Tournament our third set of first-round match-ups are available for fan voting, once again with one goal match-up and one save match-up.

Our goal match-up Friday features Denver freshman Brendan McMorrow using a spin-o-rama to get past Miami and score a short-handed snipe in traffic in Week 10, squaring off with Arizona State senior Bennett Schimek, who finishes a great play from classmate Cruz Lucius after he weaved through the Omaha defense in Week 19.

In the save match-up on Friday, DU freshman Quentin Miller makes a sprawling kick save on a rebound against Colorado College in Week 7, while CC's Kaidan Mbereko denies Western Michigan with a diving blocker save on a one-timer in Week 19.

Winning our first round match-ups from Thursday were UMD forward Max Plante and Western Michigan goalie Hampton Slukynsky. Plante defeated Miami's Doug Grimes with 54 percent of the vote, while Slukynsky knocked out Miami's Matteo Drobac with 79 percent of the vote. Plante faces SCSU's Barrett Hall in a goal match-up in the quarterfinals on April 20, while Slukynsky moves on to go against Denver's Johhny Hicks in a save match-up on April 21.

Videos for both of today's match-ups are below with the poll to vote below each video. Voting will remain open until Saturday at 5 p.m. ET, when the next two first-round match-ups are posted and today's winners are announced. The entire bracket (with schedule) can be seen at the bottom of the page.
