Miami’s Morozov, Delic and Drobac, Denver’s Pohlkamp honored for Week 2

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the second straight week, one team is home to three of four KJ Branding National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Players of the Week. Garnering KJ Branding NCHC weekly honors for Week 2 (Oct. 6-12, 2025) are a trio of Miami underclassmen and dynamic Denver defenseman:
  • Forward – Ilia Morozov, Miami, Fr.
  • Defenseman – Eric Pohlkamp, Denver, Jr.
  • Goaltender – Matteo Drobac, Miami, So.
  • Rookie – Kocha Delic, Miami, F
While Minnesota Duluth captured three weekly awards last week, this marks the first time Miami has won three NCHC weekly honors in the same week since the conference began play in 2013. These are the first career NCHC awards for all three RedHawks, with Morozov becoming the first freshman to earn NCHC Forward of the Week since former Colorado College Tiger Zaccharya Wisdom the week of Feb. 12-18, 2024.

Pohlkamp procured his fourth career NCHC Defenseman of the Week award after picking up the honor three times last season.

FORWARD OF THE WEEK
49978Ilia Morozov, Miami
Freshman Forward
Moscow, Russia

In just his second weekend of college hockey, Morozov had a monster series to lead Miami to a sweep at RPI. The 17-year-old freshman center totaled six points against the Engineers, with three each night. He became the first RedHawk since Jimmy Mullin in 2012 to have back-to-back three-point games.

In Friday’s series opener, Morozov scored the first two goals of his college career and added a primary assist. He opened the scoring Friday with a power play goal for his first tally, before burying the game-tying goal as Miami rallied from 3-1 down for a 5-3 win. A night later, Morozov potted MU’s second goal while handing out primary assists on the final two markers in a 5-0 shutout. He was tabbed Second Star of the Game both nights.

Morozov finished the series with three goals and three assists, while his six points led the NCHC on the weekend. His three goals tied for first in the conference. Morozov posted a +5 plus/minus at RPI, while firing six shots on goal and winning 16 faceoffs (16-for-38 in faceoff circle). On the season, the youngest player in college hockey now has seven points (3g/4a) in four games this season.

DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK
49976Eric Pohlkamp, Denver
Junior Defenseman
Baxter, Minn.

Pohlkamp was dominant at both ends of the ice in Denver’s first two games of the regular season, totaling four points while helping limit opponents to only one goal. In DU’s home opener on Saturday, the San Jose Sharks draft pick became only the fourth defenseman in NCHC history and 12th blueliner in Denver history to record a hat trick. Pohlkamp scored the game’s first goal, which was the game-winner, tallied short-handed for his second, and struck again even strength to cap the hat trick in a 6-0 shutout of Bentley.

In Friday’s regular-season opener at Air Force, Pohlkamp dished out the primary assist on DU’s lone goal, which tied the game late in the third period of an eventual 1-1 tie. He also blocked four shots in Friday’s draw and put seven shots on goal.

Pohlkamp finished the weekend with three goals, an assist and 12 shots on goal. He also compiled a +3 plus/minus in the two games and totaled four blocked shots, while anchoring a DU penalty kill that went 4-for-4. The Preseason All-NCHC Team selection now has points in four straight games dating back to the 2025 NCAA Tournament (4g/2a).

GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
49975Matteo Drobac, Miami
Sophomore Goaltender
Oakville, Ontario

Drobac backstopped Miami to a series sweep at RPI for the RedHawks first road sweep since October of 2022. He allowed only three goals on the weekend, including recording his first shutout as a RedHawk. In the series opener Friday, Drobac totaled 26 saves in a 5-3 victory, allowing only one 5-on-5 goal. He also tallied an assist on MU’s second goal in the series opener. The next night, Drobac again stopped 26 shots to blank the Engineers in a 5-0 victory and earn First Star of the Game. It was Miami’s first shutout since Dec. 30, 2023.

Drobac finished the weekend with a .945 save percentage, totaling 52 saves on 55 shots faced, and a 1.51 goals-against average. His save percentage and GAA both led NCHC goalies who played two games on the weekend. With the two wins, Drobac improved to 4-0-0 on the season, becoming the first goalie in Miami program history to win his first four starts. He now carries a .928 save percentage and a 2.00 GAA on the season.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
49974Kocha Delic, Miami
Freshman Forward
Ottawa, Ontario

Delic continued the strong start to his freshman campaign, racking up five points to help Miami sweep RPI on the road. In Friday’s series opener, he tallied a career-high three points, including his first collegiate multi-goal game with a power play tally and an empty-netter to seal a 5-3 victory. The next night, Delic scored Miami’s fourth goal in a 5-0 victory and added an assist for a second straight multi-point game. He was named First Star of the Game Friday and Third Star on Saturday.

With his three goals in the series, Delic is now riding a three-game goal-scoring streak, while he has points in all four of his collegiate games so far. The three goals tied with Morozov for the most by an NCHC freshman on the weekend, while the five points trailed only Morozov among NCHC rookies. Delic posted a +6 plus/minus at RPI, including +4 on Saturday, and fired eight shots on goal in the series. He now has four goals and seven points in four games this season, with the four goals tied for first in the NCHC.
